Andria Califf, Collections Manager
Andria maintains our plant collections, including databasing, image processing, pest-management, and plant identification. She also aids in course instruction. She studies the genus Johnstonella, evaluating the morphological and phylogenetic distinctiveness of two corolla forms of J. angustifolia. |

Natalie Trujillo, Curatorial Assistant
Natalie helps with photography and general curation. She is also doing a research project on the species Cryptantha intermedia, evaluating the morphological and phylogenetic distinctiveness of the two varieities: var. intermedia & var. johnstonii. |

Brenda helps with quality control and databasing the collection. She also co-instructs in our course, Field Botany of San Diego County. |

Lee Simpson, Photographic Technician
Lee has been responsible for high resolution imaging of the fruits of the Popcorn Flowers (subtribe Amsinckiinae) and Chenopodium. He is now manager of the SDSU Greenhouse. |

| The San Diego State University Herbarium (SDSU) is a depository of over 28,000 pressed and mounted plant specimens used in research and teaching. The purpose of these specimens is: 1) to serve as voucher documentation for research projects; 2) to serve as resources for plant identification; and 3) to serve as exemplars in plant courses. In addition, the herbarium both receives and provides loans of plant specimens used in active systematic research. The herbarium collection specializes in land plant specimens from San Diego County, California, and Baja California, with some collections from Argentina, Australia, Chile, and the south Pacific. To date, data from our collections have been used in over 1,000 citations. See Publications utilizing and citing specimens from the SDSU Herbarium. |
NEWS IN THE PLANT WORLD
Curators of the SDSU Herbarium are Dr. Michael Simpson and Dr. Lluvia Flores-Rentería.Their duties are to oversee the maintenance, organization, and use of the collection and to facilitate additions to the herbarium.
The Herbarium is open by appointment only, so please contact us before coming to visit SDSU. Loans of specimens are available through registered herbaria upon request. |
